He is Managing Director of Maharashtra State Electricity Board Holding Company Ltd. and also on the Board of the restructured Ratnagiri Gas and Power Pvt. Ltd., a gas based power plant on the coast of Maharashtra.He is also, Chairman of Maharashtra State Power Committee (MSPC) and Western Region Power Committee (WRPC). He is a member of high level panel formed by Government of India and headed by Mr. V. K. Shunglu on reforms and financial position of distribution utilities.
  Mr. Mehta holds a Bachelor of Technology in Civil Engineering from Institute of Technology, Banaras Hindu University and M.B.A (Finance) from U.K. He also has a degree in Law from Mumbai University. He joined the Indian Administrative Service in 1984. He was Collector of Ahmednagar District. Later he was Municipal Commissioner of Nashik. He was Joint Commissioner of Mumbai Municipal Corporation and Director of Horticulture, Government of India.
